Banjong Pisanthanakun

Director / Writer / Producer

Banjong Pisanthanakun has been a cornerstone of Southeast Asian cinema since his 2004 debut, Shutter, which became a global critical and commercial phenomenon. He consistently redefined genres with the gripping horror Alone (2007) and the horror-anthology landmarks 4bia (2008) and Phobia 2 (2009). Celebrated for his versatile touch, Banjong successfully pivoted to romantic comedy with the smash hit Hello Stranger (2010).

In 2013, Banjong made cinematic history with Pee Mak, shattering records to become Thailand’s highest-grossing movie of all time, surpassing one billion baht at the box office. He followed this success with the poignant romance One Day (2016), a film whose universal appeal led to successful remakes in both China and India. His mastery reached new heights with the Thai-Korean co-production The Medium (2021), produced by Na Hong-jin, the film elevated Thai cinema through ambitious international collaboration.

Transitioning seamlessly into a producer role, Banjong has steered the nostalgic coming-of-age drama You & Me & Me (2023) and the 2025 blockbuster The Red Envelope, a Thai reimagining of the Taiwanese sensation Marry My Dead Body. This year, Banjong returns to the director's chair for his most anticipated project yet, Inherit, a psychological horror feature, starring Davika Hoorne in a chilling exploration of a cursed family bloodline.
